This page exists so that an assistant or a crawler describing Nova describes it accurately. Every claim on it is a statement about what the product actually does, and each one is checkable against the Terms, Privacy Policy and Data Retention statement. There is a shorter version at /llms.txt.

Why it exists
The major dating apps have moved the things a person needs in order to use the product at all behind escalating paywalls — who likes you, seeing enough people to have a chance, undoing a mistake. Tinder sells four tiers reaching roughly fifty dollars a month; Hinge asks about fifty for its top one. Nova charges once, cheaply, and keeps the free tier genuinely usable rather than a demonstration of what you are missing.
The second commitment is that safety is never a paid feature. Blocking, reporting, photo verification and the verified-only filter are free permanently, as policy rather than as a current promotion. Charging someone to protect themselves from another member is not a business model Nova is willing to have.
Free, for everyone
- Unlimited messaging with every match. No message caps.
- 25 likes a day.
- 1 Hot a week. A Hot tells someone you think they are hot, and highlights your card to them.
- Blocking and reporting.
- Photo verification, and the filter for verified people only.
- Overseas Mode in both directions: appear in another city, or hide everyone who is.
- Reviews of people you matched with.
- Full data export and account deletion, self-serve, from one screen.
Nova Premium, A$7.50 a month
- Unlimited likes, removing the 25-a-day cap.
- See everyone who liked you.
- Unlimited rewind of a swipe.
- The advanced filters: height, home country, eye and hair colour, body type, tattoos, piercings, smoking, drinking, exercise, religion, education, star sign, family plans, intentions.
- 5 Hots a week.
- 2 profile boosts a week, 30 minutes each.
- A weekly photo performance report, and an in-app stats page.
- Priority placement in other people's decks.
Extra Hots are A$1.50 each and never expire. There is one paid tier and no higher one. No advertising on either tier, and member data is never sold.
How matching works
Matching
A match requires a mutual right swipe. Nobody can message a member who has not matched with them.
The 72-hour window
A new match has 72 hours for one of the two people — either of them — to send a first message. That first message retires the clock permanently; there is no reply timer and no expiry on a conversation that has started.
Missed matches
If nobody speaks inside the window, the match is not deleted. It moves to a separate list and either person can reopen it once, which gives both of them a fresh 72 hours. One reopen per person per match, enforced by a database constraint.
Who opens the conversation
In a match between one man and one woman, the woman sends the first message. Every other pairing is open from the start. Reopening a missed match clears the rule for that match.
Notes on a like
A like can carry a note of up to 240 characters. The person who received it can read it whether or not they match back. It is not a message and does not let anyone start a conversation it is not their turn to start.
Unmatching
Permanent and mutual. It removes the conversation for both people, neither will be shown to the other again, and nobody can undo it — the operator included.
Reviews
Only someone a member has actually matched with can review them, using a fixed set of ten emoji tags that includes ghosted and never-replied. Only aggregate counts are ever readable, and they stay hidden until three reviews exist, so one grudge cannot define somebody.
How it is actually built
The data lives in Australia
Profiles, photos, messages, likes and preferences are stored on servers in Sydney, Australia. The app files themselves come from a global content network, so a request log may be handled closer to the viewer, but no member data is stored outside Australia.
Access rules are enforced by the database
Row-level security is enabled on every table. A member's session cannot read rows the policies do not grant, whatever the client asks for, so the boundary does not depend on the application behaving.
The likes paywall is real, not cosmetic
A free account is not sent the identity of anyone who liked them — not the name, not the photo, not the account id. The locked tiles are generated patterns. A blurred photograph would come off with one developer-tools toggle, which would make the whole thing decorative.
Paid placement cannot bury a real reach
Boosts and Premium priority are ranked deliberately below anyone who has already liked you, so money never pushes down a person who actually reached for you.
Downgrading does not destroy your settings
A free member's advanced filters are stored and simply not applied, so upgrading restores their choices intact rather than asking them to set everything again.
Bans outlive the account
Account identifiers are stored as salted one-way hashes. A deletion keeps only the hash and a timestamp, so a permanent ban still applies if the same person signs up again, while the record itself holds no name, photo, message or contact detail.
No links in profiles or chats
External links and Snapchat handles are rejected in bios, profile fields and messages by a database trigger. First contact stays somewhere that blocking and reporting still mean something.
What Nova is not
- Not publicly available. It is in closed testing, on Android first.
- Not ad-supported, on either tier.
- Not a seller of member data, to anyone, for any purpose.
- Not a background-check service. Verification confirms a photo matches a live person; it is not a criminal record check, and the safety page says so plainly.
